TOBIAS MEINEKE

SYNOPSIS

ADELE H.

The tragic story of a terminally ill friend provoked the Braunschweig-based artist Tobias Meineke to grapple controversially with the originally iconic placement of the image in occidental culture. Bright, life-affirming pictures include, apart from pigments, also traces of the ashes of Adele H., who was so enthusiastic about Meineke’s “turnables” – circular, shining color patches – that she asked the artist to be able to keep on shining in her own private other side: this life for those living after she has died.
