ISAYAS MEHARI

SYNOPSIS

ENBARAZU

Procreation is the focus of Isayas Mehari’s large-scale multi-media production: in a large hall, several hundred dancers are left to their choreographic intuition for several hours on a field of numbered paper squares. In the center of the action: one dancer who alluringly moves within one narrowly circled area. Every step of the dancers with their specially prepared shoes leaves a trace of paint on the paper floor, so that at the end one of the greatest action-painting works in the world is created, with about as many traces left as human sperms that make their way to the egg cell in the process of procreation. At the same time, this largest image in the world is not manageable for the viewer: The individual pieces of the puzzle are being stacked and stored after having been numbered. Only the one viewer buying each individual piece, has the opportunity of a comprehensive look at it.
